Message he has increased the volume of the leg between the center runner and the turbine flange. If we want to refer to that as the collector, that's cool - just so we are on the same page. I just didn't think of it as a collector as it really is just a larger volume runner that really doesn't incorporate the rear runner, so it really isn't a collector in the truest sense.

Going back to your question though, given that only one cylinder is blowing gases into the manifold at a time, there really is no need to increase the volume of the runner from #1 into #2 where they meet. But the biggest issue with Jon's manifolds is the flow of the #3 runner - it is considerably more restrictive than the other two. I think he might also consider making the runner inlet openings slightly larger too and advising his customers to port match the heads; like what MS did on their manifolds.
